Hi Reader,
Supernatural premiered twenty-one years ago today.
Two brothers, one 1967 Impala, fifteen seasons of driving around the Midwest (except for that one weird trip to Scotland), lying to each other about how they're doing, and then saving the world roughly once a year with a trunk full of salt, the help of their friends (and frenemies), and a new/old magical talisman.
I've watched since the first episode.
I've rewatched it from the beginning well over 100 times.
You're welcome.
It was even one of the rare shows that survived the 2007/2008 writers' strike in Season 3 (RIP Heroes).
You're going to be learning a LOT more about The Sparkleverse™ and Guardian's Origin Stories over the next month. Including detailed character profiles, like how Ember is modeled after Dean Winchester (his love of pie makes it obvious to me), and Marina after Sam.
I took three things from that show, and I use all of them in my life and business. (It's really a lot more than three, but we don't have time for all that.)

One. Nobody wins the big fight out of their own trunk.
Dean's trunk is not a junk drawer. It's an arsenal. Salt, iron, holy water, six kinds of ammo, a machete, and he can find any of it in the dark in about four seconds.
And it's still never enough.
Every real fight needs one specific thing he doesn't have.
A blade. A recipe. A talisman nobody's laid eyes on since 1409. So they call Bobby, and he knows which book it's in.
Bobby is the thing they can't do without.
I've got a trunk.
At least forty old products in it that need rebuilding.
What took me longer to admit is that owning the stuff and knowing which piece to reach for are two different skills, and I've needed my own Bobby more than once.
Two. The real conversation happens in the car.
Every job ends the same way.
Salt, burn, get in the Impala, drive.
And then somewhere in the last five minutes, one of them says something true, and the other one lets him (boy melodrama scenes).
That's the scene people rewatch. And cry over. Fifteen seasons of two people who could not talk about anything until they were side by side, most likely drinking a beer, and not making eye contact.
I run my business from a desk by myself, and the thing I miss most is the "car." Somebody to say the half-formed version to before it's a plan. It doesn't have to be a mastermind or a call with an agenda. Just somebody who knows the job.
If you don't have that right now, The Fellowship of the Rainbow™ Community is free, and it's going to be ripped free from purgatory with a second chance on October 1st. Come join us in the car.
Three. Family don't end in blood.
Bobby says it, and then the whole internet put it on a mug, and it's still true. The people who show up for you are not always the ones you got assigned.
That one's on my mind because I've been driving a lot of road lately, back and forth to my mom's treatments, and the playlist I put on for those drives is basically just songs from the show. Because a song about carrying on is a song about carrying on; who knew.
Anyway. Happy Supernatural Day!
Hit reply and let me know your favorite episode, or just the one scene you think about at random for no reason. I have too many to choose a favorite, but I can almost always find a reference to an episode for something going on in my life and get strength from knowing I can do it.

A Note From Crystal
An Update On My Mom
So many of you have been following up to see how my mom is doing. Thank you so much for all the prayers. She's currently passed the mid-point of her first round of chemo and radiation. Five treatments a week, plus scans and doctor visits stacked on top of that.
In Nov/Dec she goes to Indianapolis for surgery. That's three hours from here and a ten day stay, so we'll be renting an Airbnb to be near her. I can work from anywhere, which is the one lucky part of this.
She's at poverty level, and was living in scenario's we didn't know about, so we've been buying her a lot of things to make her more comfortable, and money is past tight. We're also burning through gas with all the trips. She still needs a few things for her comfort. I've created a small wishlist in Amazon if you're able to help. If you'd rather help with the gas and the lodging, I created a donation button in PayPal.
If neither of those works right now, that's completely fine. I'd rather you know what's going on than wonder why I've been quiet.
